Retrieve Lost Windows and MS Office Product Key With Win Key Finder

Most of the PC users are afraid to format their PC not because they don’t know how to do it, but because of the fact that they don’t remember their Operating System license key along with MS Office Key. For laptop users the license key or product key for your pre-installed operating system is on the back side of the laptop. For desktop users the license key or product key for your operating system is on the front side of the cabinet.
But knowing the license key for people who have bought the operating system or activated their PC over the internet is difficult. Now either you can use utility software like license crawler which gives you the product and license key for all applications installed on your system or you can try Win Key Finder.
Win Key Finder is application software which retrieves product key or license key encoded and stored in the registry for your Windows Operating System, MS Office and .Net. It decodes this encoded key from registry. You can save this license and product key on your system with encryption, thus making it secure enough. It even allows you to change or modify Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and .Net Product keys.

Download Video From Your Web Browser Cache With Video Cache View

Sometimes after watching a video on your web browser, you may want to save the video on your system so that you can view it anytime you want. If you’re thinking about downloading the videos using some kind of downloader, then all you are doing is wasting you bandwidth and time. Because you have already watched the video, and whenever you view an image or video on your web browser, it actually gets saved temporarily in the web browser cache. Now what’s the use of downloading the same video again using a download manager, all you need is a way to extract the currently viewed video from your web browser cache.
Video Cache View is a tool which scans the entire cache of Internet Explorer, Mozilla based Web Browsers like Firefox, Opera, and Google Chrome and finds all the video that are currently stored in it. It even allows you to easily save the cached video files to another user-defined folder for viewing or watching them in future. If any of your media players is currently assigned as a default player for flv files, then you can directly watch or view video from video cache view.

How to download video from browser cache using Video Cache View

After downloading Video Cache View, you’ll see that this tool doesn’t require installation or any additional DLL files in order to run. Just double-click on the executable (Video Cache View.exe) file. Now Video Cache View will scan your web browser cache including Windows temporary folder for any stored video. It may take about 5-30 seconds for Video Cache View to completely scan the web browser caches.
You’ll see a list of videos, you can choose to either play these videos with Play Selected File or you can copy any of the video to another folder with Copy Selected Files To.
download video from web browser cache with video cache view
Sometimes the video is not available in your browser cache, and it will be showed in Video Cache View with “In Cache = No”, you can use Open Download URL or press F8 in order to download the video. You can even copy the URL of the video files by using Copy Download URL or by pressing Ctrl+U.

Install Or Update Your Freeware Software With Soft2base

With the quality and quantity of freeware software increasing day-by-day for every possible task you can perform. Some of these free software does get updated every week or so, and some gets updated quite often. Now if you want to update one of these freeware, then you might have to visit their official website quite often to know whether an update is available or not. Now think how much work and time you have to put for updating all the freeware available on your system. I know I’ll definitely go totally insane.
Now if you’re thinking of using some software that free you from the task of updating software, or you’re looking from a new freeware, then I might be able to help you. Now you can go for free applications like Ninite or FileRex updater, but I found Soft2Base quite interesting than the above mentioned tools.
Soft2Base allows you to update your currently installed software, and also notifies you whenever an update is available for any freeware software installed on your system. The program uses constantly update database to verify your version updates.
soft2base
One of the things that intrigued me about Soft2Base is its portability and the option to use this application in offline mode. That is you can download the software and store them on a USB drive, or CD to use on a system with no internet connection.  There are currently 61 titles available which are regularly checked for update. If you wondering about the number of applications supported, then you can check their online catalogue.
soft2base
After installing and running Soft2Base, the default windows will show a number of freeware application marked in different colors. The blue icons represent applications that are not installed on your system, the green icon denotes the installed application on your system. The purple icon with a down arrow denotes that the current software has an update available.
If you choose to update or install software, then you’ll be presented with some setup options, one of which lets you to download application without actually installing them. This in turn can be very helpful for using Soft2Base in offline mode. Silent Install option lets you install an application without going through dialogue boxes and thus user don’t have to do anything.via[techyfuzz]

Siren is a flexible freeware file renamer for Windows

If your digital camera is only creating photos like CIMG0282.jpg you may feel the desire to rename those photos once they have been transferred to the PC for easier recognition in the future. While you could place them into properly named directories, you’d end up with the photo names being displayed in some occasions.
When it comes to renaming files you have the professional tools like Bulk Rename Utility which may seem complicated to use at first (check the screenshot), or simpler programs like ReNamer which do not offer that many features but are easier to use because of this.
Siren sits somewhere in the middle. The developer of the file renaming software is currently working on version 3, which has recently been released as a Release Candidate. When you start the portable application after downloading and unpacking it on your system, you will see an interface that looks like the one on the screenshot below.
siren file renamer
You use the left sidebar to browser to a folder containing files that you want to rename, and make a selection here with the checkboxes. You can select all files automatically, or select files. If you want, you can also load all files residing in subdirectories into the current root folder (virtually) to process them as well.
If you know your way around the program, you can simply type a new format into the expression field and watch the new name field to check up on the new file name. Every change you make to the format is reflected here right after you hit the return key. If you are new to the program, you have two options to get used to it.
You can first click on the blue button next to the expression field to see a list of all supported variables. Next to standard variables like the file name or extension, are file specific variables like audio or video tags, Exif information when it comes to photos, and even system environment variables like the home directory.
file format variables
The second option that you have is to use the built-in wizard, the second button in that row, for a visualized process. Here you see the current and new name at the top, and renaming options below that. Everything that you select here is reflected automatically on the same page so that you can verify the new name before you close the wizard.
You have got the option to replace the existing files with the new names, or create copies of the files instead. Siren is a sophisticated file renamer for Windows that leaves little to be desired. If you are currently looking for a renamer, I suggest you try it out. It is compatible with all recent – and not so recent – versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system.via[ghacks]

Remote Support for Google Chrome

Remote Support for Google Chrome: Chrome Remote Desktop with new features

Google introduced with  Chrome Remote Desktop  already last year, a free remote control software available for you only, and requires only Google Chrome. Chrome Chrome is in the Remote Desktop Web Store as a free version available to everyone.
In the meantime, updates incorporated (most recently yesterday), so I had looked at the fun again. In addition to remote maintenance also have the opportunity has come to authorize their own devices by default, to secure it with a pin or on the road to access the data.

Not only that you can access their own files, logically, can the Chrome Remote Desktop also use to help others. Do you want to access the computer of a friend, he must notify you in advance and the pin is already going on an encrypted remote session. The meetings are always on the internet, the quality is so, but enough - at least if you want to run remotely.via[Caschy]

MP3 Toolkit offers all the MP3 Tools you will ever need

When it comes to mp3 files, you sometimes may need a set of tools to edit, convert or even rip them in first place. While you can use specialized tools for that which provide you with some of the functionality that you may need, a set of tools that Mp3 Toolkit offers may come in handy as well.
It is basically a collection of free tools that let you work with and create mp3 files on your system. When you start the program after installation, you will see all tools listed on the first screen. Here you can make the following selections:
mp3 toolkit
  • MP3 Converter – Convert various audio formats into mp3, or another selected audio format. You can add single audio files or convert all files inside a folder at once.  Conversion options include selecting the bitrate, rate and audio channel settings for the output files.
  • CD to MP3 Ripper – Insert an audio CD into the computer’s optical drive to have it converted to mp3 audio files.
  • MP3 Tag Editor – A convenient tag editor that offers a lot when it comes to mp3 tags. You can use it to edit tags manually, remove non-ID3 tags, synchronize tags, copy information between ID3 tag formats, or clean tags. What it does not offer however is an option to retrieve tag information from an Internet music database.
  • MP3 Merger – You can use this module to join multiple mp3 files.
  • MP3 Cutter – Cut parts of an mp3 file. Comes with options to save as a ringtone.
  • MP3 Recorder – Will record system sounds. There is unfortunately no option to select an audio source here.
The program can be quite useful, even though you may find that specialized tools like CDexThe Crab or Audacity have more to offer in terms of functionality. Still, for basic tasks this may be all that you need after all. All modules MP3 Toolkit ships with are easy to use, which is definitely the biggest advantage besides the fact that it is a tools collection and not a single-purpose program.via[ghacks]

Bring Back Torrent Download Links On The Piratebay

If you are on the Piratebay website from time to time, you may have noticed that the people behind the site have moved away from torrent files to magnet links in the recent past. When you open a page on the site, you still see a get this torrent link published there, but it is a magnet link and not a torrent file link.
While not true for all indexed files yet, it is likely that the site will eventually remove all torrent download links and rely solely on magnet links instead. The core reason for this is bandwidth, as torrent files are much larger than magnet links.
Piratebay users on the other hand may experience issues with magnet links. While most modern Bittorrent clients support them, they may slow down the downloading of the needed data, especially during the beginning and if a torrent is not well seeded. They can also not be used for services that turn torrents into direct http downloads.
The free userscript ThePirateBay: Magnet to Torrent brings back torrent download links on the Piratebay website. When you visit a torrent page on the Piratebay website without it, you may notice that the Get This Torrent link on it links to the magnet link only, and not a torrent file. With the userscript installed, you will notice that magnet links are now displayed as such, and that the Get Torrent File link links to the torrent download.
the piratebay torrent downloads
The biggest advantage of this userscript is that it retrieves the torrent file information in the background, and displays them instantly on the screen without any user interaction. Piratebay users who prefer torrents over magnet links will surely find this a useful userscript to install on their computer.
The userscript has been tested in Firefox, with Greasemonkey installed, and in the Google Chrome web browser, and it worked as intended in both browsers.via[ghacks]

Windows 8's New Security Tools and Features

If you have played with Windows 8 preview, you know that it could change the way people think about PC. Microsoft has attempted to combine rich functionality with extra security by still maintaining the convenience and simplicity. Most importantly, Windows 8 comes with added security with some interesting changes that will change the face of windows security. Here is a list of security features that you can notice in Windows 8.

1. Built-in Antivirus:

The first security feature that you will clearly notice is Windows Defender. Any complete security solution should have all vital components like virus detection, network intrusion protection, protection from behavior-based threats, and protection from other types of malware attacks. In previous versions, Microsoft offered minimal protection with Defender. Now, Microsoft has decided to include features of
its Security Essentials to Windows Defender. This means you will find a completely revamped Defender that has all components of a complete security solution that can give you out-of-the box protection along with firewall and parental controls without any need for installing additional antivirus software.

Does it mean users needn’t have to bother about real time threats and completely stay away from buying third party security products? The test analysis done on Windows 8 Developer preview build shows that Windows Defender failed to block almost 20% of threats and its performance was quite slower than third party security products. From users’ perspective, having a complete security solution along with Windows is certainly beneficial for them, but we need to wait and see whether Windows Defender is capable of giving full-fledged robust performance like third party security software.

2. Protection against malware applications:

Internet Explorer 9 has SmartScreen filter to detect and block malicious programs that you download from internet. This feature has also helped to block phishing sites. With Windows 8, this feature comes built-in with the operating system itself. So now, any malicious programs will be blocked irrespective of whether you use Chrome, Opera, or any other browser. The feature works by checking the downloaded
program against a list of safe applications, and alerts you in case it has the potential to be a malware. This is definitely an improvement as it cuts down the number of unnecessary alerts as it used to show earlier. Now, with Windows 8, you will see a warning only when something is wrong.

3. Enhanced password protection:

Windows 8 allows you to create a four-digit pin and a picture password apart from having a regular password. Since the Developer preview, users have found that picture password is a convenient alternative to text-based passwords. The picture passwords work like this. You choose a photo to unlock your system and then define touch gestures to be used to unlock the system. Initially, users were skeptical because the smudges on the screen could be used be used by anyone to crack the password.

But, Microsoft has stated that the order, direction and location of gestures are also considered while storing the password, so cracking a picture password on a screen that is used regularly won’t be that easy. For instance, if you have a photo with group of people then randomly circle on someone’s face, and then draw some lines. Would that be easy to crack? If you are still skeptical, you can check Microsoft blog for complex mathematical calculations to prove that picture passwords are safer than
other methods. Additionally, Windows 8 also has four-digit pin password for added protection.

4. Secure Boot:

In spite of having anti-malware technology, almost all PCs remain vulnerable to security attacks. A particularly dangerous type of threat includes malicious programs that could overwrite the contents of kernel of an operating system, and once an operating system is compromised, then no application can be trusted. Now, with Windows 8, Microsoft addresses this problem using secure boot architecture with
Unified Extensible Firmware Interface, Early launch Anti-Malware Driver, and Remote attestation.

a. Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI):

Windows 8 will fully adopt a computer security architecture called Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI), developed by Intel. In a boot chain, UEFI makes certain that every module is signed and verifies the signature of the following module before it is allowed to execute. One of the major problem with UEFI is it doesn’t allow untrusted modules to be loaded even if they are part of a multi-boot
configuration. This means UEFI cannot be used on machines that host another OS such as Linux. So users will not have the ability to dual or multi-boot a system with Windows 8 and other operating systems that do not support UEFI.

An alternative is, instead of going for dual-boot system, you can have Linux in a virtual machine and continue to use Windows 8, but that depends on for what purpose you use Linux. Apart from this, UEFI is definitely advantageous as it brings the confidence that rootkit will not be able to tamper the kernel of Windows operating system.

b. Early Load Anti-Malware Driver (ELAM):

With UEFI architecture, the operating system images can be verified, but the trust does not cover critical boot drivers that are essential for starting a system. Windows 8 tackles this by introducing ELAM drivers in the load sequence. To protect against malicious boot drivers, the ELAM driver will be the first non-Microsoft module to get control during a boot sequence, and it will be consulted for every boot driver to be verified and loaded. Finally, ELAM driver will exit after loading all necessary boot drivers. Given that ELAM runs in restricted mode, this will definitely improve security and prevent malware drivers from loading. But daily hundreds of unique threats are coming up, so how much time will be spent on ELAM and how will the boot time performance be affected.

c. Remote Attestation:

This is another layer of boot time protection offered by Windows 8 to ensure that a system is not compromised. To make use of this feature, Windows 8 will have a Trusted Platform Module (TPM), which will record the loaded modules that cannot be modified by any software. This measurement will be kept in a log that will be retrieved remotely and verified. Even though this process is not new,

Windows 8 extends this process all the way down to kernel level. So any discrepancies during the boot sequence will be caught remotely.

These enhanced security measures could put third party security vendors out of business, but only time will tell whether Windows 8 security is tough enough to defend against all types of real time threats and malwares.via[corenetworz]

Microsoft introduces the boot menu of Windows 8

A new broom sweeps well known, but there are Microsoft'schen broom called Windows 8 certainly more than a corner waiting to be discovered. In the current, as always, very epic, long, blog post , it will be looking at the issue of reboot and boot options.
You should at least have in mind when using a device running Windows 8 - because the boot menu is great. Have already used the one on Slate. Not only do we have different boot modes, and repair functions of Windows 8 can be carried out there.

Although Windows provides 8 is a "basic Windows" on your hard drive, but what you should not prevent a Windows 8 recovery image to create. In the boot menu of Windows 8 will find everything useful in the future: recovery functions, boat types and troubleshooting.

Quiet times take interest in two minutes and watch the video of Chris Clark. Clearly shows the boot modes - and even those you should know. I guess that many of you are those who are called when booting up with friends, neighbors and relatives no longer the case;)

Windows 8 Upgrade To Cost $14.99, Starts June 2

Good news for PC users who plan to purchase a PC with Windows 7 in the coming months. New details about Microsoft’s upcoming upgrade promotion have come to light. News broke a few days ago that Microsoft was planning a promotion for customers who’d purchase a PC running Windows 7 Home Basic or better in the near future. What we did not know at that point in time was the upgrade price, when the promotion would launch, and what upgrade paths were offered.

Today, additional information about the deal where revealed by Mary Jo-Foley and Paul Thurrott. The promotion starts on June 2 according to their information, which falls in line with the release of the Windows 8 Release Candidate. With Windows 8 rumored to be released in the fourth quarter of 2012, it gives customers buying a PC with Windows 7 ample time to upgrade to the operating system, should they wish to do so.
The two revealed further that the upgrade price will be set to $14.99 for all eligible Windows PCs, and that customers will always receive the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro, regardless of the Windows 7 operating system that shipped with the PC (provided that it is eligible of course).
This marks a shift in strategy, especially when compared to the Vista to Windows 7 upgrade promotion. Back then, Windows Vista customers could upgrade to Windows 7, but only to the version closest to the one that shipped with the PC that they did purchase back then.
Windows 8 Pro is Microsoft’s retail flagship product, with the only other version competing on the desktop simply named Windows 8. When you look at the differences between the two versions, you will notice that Windows 8 Pro ships with business related features that the regular version does not ship with. This includes Client Hyper-V, Domain Join, Group Policy, Remote Desktop (host), and Bitlocker encryption.
It is interesting to note that buying a Windows 7 PC and taking Microsoft up on the upgrade offer may come cheaper than buying a Windows 8 Pro PC directly when the operating system comes out.
The upgrade price is more than fair, especially since users get the Pro version of Windows 8, even if they only purchased a PC with an “inferior” Windows 7 version. Keep in mind that this has not been officially confirmed by Microsoft yet.
I’d suggest to check with the retailer first before making any purchases, to make sure that the PC you want to buy is included in the upgrade promotion. (via Everything Microsoft)

Firefox with Recovery Function

I had this already in place on the new Firefox reported features of the "factory condition". Here, the Firefox needed in the future a new profile or even a new installation, the function simply deletes files and restores the original state restore - almost like the recovery option of Windows 8 .
The change that is in the nightly Firefox finds 15 already, is reached when about: support in the address bar enter. Here you can learn not only facts about the installation, but you get there, the ability to reset Firefox.

Who's afraid of bookmarks and passwords: these are in addition to the Form settings and cookies, the elements, the reserves of Firefox. Extensions and co kicked out, because these are usually the things that affect the use of Firefox: a naked browser such as is normally ensure no stress.via[caschy]

AirDroid: Remote access to the smartphone

I really wanted to have blogged yesterday, but ate the incredibly long post Samsung my meager time, so I AirDroid the contribution to today postponed.AirDroid ? Man, you know it already from this modest blog. One of my must-have apps. Not just because it looks incredibly good, but because it works great and brings real added value.
AirDroid is a server that starts you on your smartphone. Viewed in the browser, you now have access to all sorts of things: SMS, installed apps, photo, movie, music and of course your contacts.

Contacts can be edited, written text and photos / music & Co are just loaded up and down, I think the screenshots speak for themselves there. This works when the devices are on a wireless network, the speed in my test was 1a - the app is definitely a recommendation for all those who through no nerve data and want to push her.

Whoever wants to can install additional backup apps or uninstall. This also applies to ringtones and contacts. I had previously tested the beta, which is now released in version 1.0.5 with some new features.

So the phone can now be achieved not only via IP address but also by web.airdroid.com. Also there is a QR code for simplified login.

What else? Multiple desktops, widgets, the ability to install apps via drag and drop (to move files) and so on. Who does not know it: try it, all others: make update.Great, great app for Android - therefore under my Android apps ! Via[Caschy]
