Zynga Slingo Combines Past and Present in New Social Game

Take a spin on Facebook with Zynga’s new Slingo game — that’s slots and bingo combined.

On Wednesday, social game creator Zynga launched Slingo for Facebook. If you’ve been a fan of online games for a long time, you might have played Slingo in the past — the game started on America Online 15 years ago.

“Anybody who’s played Slingo in the past will feel right at home,” says Rich Sawel, product manager for Zynga Slingo.

Zynga Slingo combines the classic features of Slingo with the glitz and pizzazz of Zynga games.

Players click “spin” and match numbers to fill a bingo card. They can bump up their score by earning balls and coins. Get a “bingo” by matching five numbers vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Players can wager their points — the whole loot or just a percentage — and flip the devil v. cherub coin to potentially win big or lose it all.

There are five “worlds” in which to play Slingo and lots of visual appeal — confetti, flashes, bright colors, a moving joker in the bottom right corner. Zynga kept the cherub and devil images from the original version.

And just like other social games, you can play for a bit at a time then walk away and pick up the game later on. Unless, of course you’re addicted.

“It’s like recess for adults,” Sawel said.

Slingo was one of the first free casual games on the market 15 years ago, said Slingo Inc. CEO Rich Roberts. The game has been played by more than 55 million people over the years.

“Zynga has the experience on social games and this certainly fits what Zynga does,” Roberts said. “We think that with this relationship the game will appeal to user.”

Let's face it. 2011 was one of the best years in gaming. We saw a plethora of sequels hit the market from Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 competing with Battlefield 3 for the title of the best FPS (First Person Shooter) war game. The Caped Crusader also returned in Batman Arkham City. We donned the role of our favourite assassin in Assassins Creed Revelations and played a death defying treasure hunter in Uncharted 3. For the RPG (Role Playing Games) fans out there, games like the Witcher 2 and the Elders Scroll 5 Skyrim sucked up hundreds of gaming hours. We even saw games like Portal 2, which left us scratching our heads in bewilderment! And these are just a few of the blockbusters 2011 brought us. A pretty productive year? 1. Mass Effect 3

The name is enough to give any gamer shivers! The third story in Bioware's critically acclaimed Mass Effect series, in which you once again take on the role of Commander Shepard leading the counter assault to save earth from total annihilation. The biggest USP of the Mass Effect franchise has been the ability to take decisions and bear the consequences for your actions. The story arc changes based on the decisions you take. Add to the fact that the third game in the franchise is going to add multiplayer; this is one war you won't want to miss this year.

2. Hitman Absolution

2006 was the last we saw of the cold-blooded Hitman more commonly known as Agent 47. Heck, after playing Blood Money (which was released in 2006), some of us wanted to change our profession. Seriously! Six years seems like a long time to wait. If the promos and one awesome 12 minute gameplay demo shown off by developer I/O Interactive is anything to go by, this will be one of the best third person action adventure games of the year and we will be more than happy to don the role of the lead antagonist.

If in 1995, you were lucky enough to own a PS1, then you undoubtedly played Twisted Metal. This is probably one of the longest running Racing Action franchises on Sony's gaming hardware.   Multiplayer will undoubtedly be a highlight of the series as 16 players will battle a variety of classic and new game modes.

4. Max Payne 3

The series that gave birth to bullet time is back, and back with a vengeance. Max Payne defined a place for itself in the third person action genre with a killer story, comic book style narrative and a little trick called bullet time that has been emulated by virtually every action game since. Apart from upping the action, the third game in the franchise will offer a more gripping and grittier story along with an improved cover based system and of course, better bullet time.  And since a little company called Rockstar Studios is developing the game, our hopes for this one are sky high!

5. Ninja Gaiden 3

Crazy style Ninja action is the way of the Samurai and who can do it better than Team Ninja, the masterminds behind the Ninja Gaiden franchise. This hack and slash style action game will bring to the franchise a more refined combat system along with online multiplayer support. The series will now appeal to the casual and hardcore alike, thanks to the addition of a difficulty setting that enables auto block for the reflex challenged gamers.

6. Bioshock Infinite

If you aren't as psyched about Bioshock Infinite as we are then you need to wake up and smell the coffee! Shifting from the underwater settlement of Rapture, Irrational Games takes players to the city of Columbia settled high in the clouds. Expect one physiologically thrilling adventure in this first person shooter as you explore the new world of Columbia.

7. Tomb Raider

What do you get when Assassins Creed meets Uncharted? A game we can't wait to play! The reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise takes players back in time to the roots of lead protagonist Lara Croft and the story of how she became the kick-ass explorer we have come to love over the decades. In the E3 2011 demo of the game that was shown off, we were introduced to some seriously cinematic gameplay (looking a lot like Uncharted) and some very cool 'Eagle Vision' style mechanics (Assassins Creed anyone?), which will help Lara, escape from the deserted island she is marooned on.

8. Borderlands 2

The only game on our list to be a PC exclusive, and there's a good reason for that. How to Troubleshoot Xbox

Xbox: Xbox is a modern video console that is developed by the Microsoft that was released in 2001. Xbox Live is an online game network on the internet and you can play games with the other gamers online. Xbox Live is a multiplayer internet gaming. Sometimes you might have faced the errors in your Xbox. 

Following section will tell you what’s the common errors of the Xbox are and how to repair them. There are three major types of the problems in the Xbox such as console problem, disc problem and the accessories problem.
Xbox Troubleshooting Tips
Check Internet Connection
Before performing any troubleshooting methods, you first check that is your internet connection is working on the network computers. If your computer or the network computer does not access the internet then you should first troubleshoot the home network first.


IP Address

Perform an IP address test to verify that Xbox possesses the valid IP address.
Network Adapter
Testing the network adapter verifies that you have physical connection between the Xbox and the network adapter.
Common Errors

1. Xbox Console Disc Tray will not open
You may find that you can turn on the Xbox console but you cannot open the Xbox disc tray and most probably this problem is occurred when a game disc, CD or DVD is stuck in the disc tray.
Solution: Make sure that the Xbox console is functioning correctly and you can verify it by seeing a picture on the screen when you turn on the Xbox console. Press the eject button of the disc to open the disc tray. If the tray does not open by pressing the eject button try to manually open it by unplugging the Xbox console from the power source. Insert a straightened paper clip or other small tool in the hole at an angle to the left. Gently push the paper clip to try to push the manual release button and try to partially open the disc tray. You may have to do several tries to open the disc tray and it has been observed that thin paper clip works fine than the thin paper clip. After the disc tray partially opens, pull the disc tray with your fingers so that it can be fully opened.
2. Indicator Light Flashing Green and Orange
If the Xbox does not detect the AV pack then the indicator light of the Xbox console may flash repeatedly in green and oranges modes. This behavior is only applies to the connection between AV pack and the Xbox Console.
Solution: Disconnect and reconnect the Xbox AV pack and make sure that the connections are firmly connected. Turn on the Xbox again and examine the lights behavior. If the problem is not solved and the behavior is continued then try to use another AV pack if available.
3. Game Disc is not playing and no error message occurred.
Solution: If the game disc is not functioning and generates no error message then make sure that the game disc is clean. Clean the disc with the soft cloth from the center outwards and do not use any type of chemicals to clean the disc. After cleaning the game disc, press the power button to restart the Xbox console. If the problem is still not solved then replace the disc with other one and if the other disc is playing then the problem is in the first disc and if the multiple discs are not functioning then the problem is at the Xbox hardware level.
4. Game Locks up at the same point
You may notice that the game is stopped at the same point repeatedly.
Solution: Hold down the game disc by the edges without touching the surface of the game and clean the disc with a soft lightly wiping cloth. Secondly, make sure that the Xbox console clock is set correctly. Next turn on the Xbox console without any disc in the disc drive and select the directional pad up and down to select the main menu and then press A. Next press the pad again up or down to select the settings and press A and again press the pad up or down to select clock and press A.
5. Xbox Controller is not working
Solution: Verify that the Xbox controller is attached correctly and remove the DVD receiver if you are using DVD playback kit. Make sure that the inline release plugs are connected firmly. Make sure that there is no foreign substance between the controller plug and port. Next disconnect and reconnect the inline release on the Xbox controller card. If the controller does not work in any of the port, remove the discs from the disc drive and restart the Xbox console. To avoid damaging the cable of the console avoids winding the cable around the controller.

Xbox 360 Gets a Cloud Storage Feature on Its Next Update

Microsoft plans to free all gamers around the world from the hassles of client-based stored files, because they had just recently announced that they would be offering cloud storage services for their dedicated console. The addition of this feature for the next Xbox live update could potentially be the next best thing since the days of internally saved files and memory cards of the 20th century gaming era.

The cloud storage service basically ends your need to worry about forgetting all your files and data on your Xbox. You can simply access the file to their database and presto! The save files pops right up for easy access. You don’t have to think about the possibility of losing your files due to some hardware or software error ever again. It’s probably goodbye to the words “gamertag recovery” by the time this update comes out.

The most important benefit of this feature would probably be the fact that you can access your own account at any Xbox unit, so even if you’re not in your own home, you can still have your Xbox gaming experience to the fullest.

This coming Xbox live update also has other nifty options, including the use of special beacons that would track you and your friend’s favorite games. The beacons can be efficient information markers, letting your friends know what games you are playing and would want to play. It advertised to open many opportunities in gaming, allowing you to share the games that you love with your friends in just a “blink” of the beacon.

There are still many questions to be answered about the update, such as the privilege boundaries of the service. But one thing’s for sure though, we’ll know soon enough, because you can expect this Xbox update to arrive sometime this year.
