How to Resume Download broken file with IDM (Internet Download Manager)

Some times, when you tried to download the file with  IDM(Internet Download Manager), it failed to download the file. You got frustrated when the file has already been downloaded more than 50%. Message appeared "Do you want to download the file from the beginning".

It happened due to the several facts & problems: -
  • When server stoped responding
  • Your Internet connection has problems
  • You manually pause it
  • stopped it to download it later some times.while you know it has the capability of resuming.
  • IDM failed, when it send the request to download it where it has stopped. 
Response of the IDM was "Do you want to download it from the begining". Definately you don't want to download it from the begining while you have downloaded 1 GB or more. There are the tips and tricks to download the file from where IDM has stopped or you had paused it.


  1. Open the same file in the browser, click to download it again, when dialogue window appear select to "download it later". (Check to ensure that the file must have the same file size and from the same link/server).
  2. Open IDM manager window and double click the file you have selected to "download later" 
  3. Select the full address field and press ctrl+c to copy to the clipboard.
  4. Now, double click the file which has not been resuming and paste the address there which you have copied earlier in the address field press ok. 
  5. In the IDM manager window click the file and press resume. 90% of the resuming problems has been resolved by this little tip and trick.

Repair a dead hard drive: Where to start

When a hard drive goes bad, the first thing you'll probably do is have a good old curse at the platter gods for picking on you. You then might decide to have a bit of a panic when you realise that you didn't back up your files.
Shortly after sweating out a few pounds, you'll probably have a go at fixing it. Well, it's worth a shot after all. But chances are, unless you know exactly what the problem is and have the skills necessary to fix it, you're pretty much up poop alley.
If you're lucky and the disk head or motor hasn't been damaged, the problem could lie in the controller board or printed circuit board (PCB). Often, when there's a power surge or the drive overheats, it can damage the board. If this happens, then you can quite easily replace the PCB with one that is working and bring your hard drive back to life.
A common sign that a PCB has been in the wars is a scorch mark, but sometimes there are no visual cues to give the game away.

First things first

The PCB might not be the problem after all, then, but it's the one area of the drive that you should tackle first when something goes wrong. After all, a replacement PCB from a specialist like www.hdd-parts.com will set you back around £25 delivered to your door, so it's a relatively inexpensive way of fixing your drive.
If you were feeling plucky, you could just go to a data specialist and get a man in a white coat in a lab to carefully take your entire hard drive apart and put it all back together, in the hope of rescuing your drive, but you'll be looking at a bill for at least £1,000. Unless you really, really need the files on that drive, you'll avoid this route and go down the PCB road first.

Back to life

Does it really work? Well, we tried it on a drive that had suddenly stopped working one day. There were no horrible clicking sounds, it simply wouldn't power on – the thing was lifeless. So, we replaced the PCB with an identical working one and managed to get it working again.
This wasn't after trying it on many different drives – this was the first one we'd worked on, so it wasn't a fluke.
It's worth mentioning that if this works for you, and there's a pretty good chance that it will, once it's up and running again, don't get lazy and put it back in your PC. If it failed once, there's a probability that it will fail again. Our advice is to transfer all your sacred files to another drive and then bin it… or pop it in the trophy cabinet.

Step-by-step: Fix your hard drive

1. Take drive details down

Get a replacement PCB identical to your current one, otherwise it won't work. Note down the model number (below the S/N), the P/N, the Firmware code, Date code and Site code, as well as the Main Controller IC number, which is located on the main square black chip in the middle of the actual PCB. In our case it was the six-digit code near the top, above the word 'SEAGATE'.

2. Search for it online
Go to hdd-parts.com and enter the model of the dead drive (in our case, it's the 11-digit code two lines down from the top of the drive) into the search box at the top of the page. This won't give you the exact model, but look through the list of results and find the drive that matches all the numbers you noted down in the first step. Now, buy it!

3. Check your parts

The new PCB should take about six to 10 working days to arrive through the post. When the mail man comes round, you should receive a box with a replacement working PCB inside, as well as a torx screwdriver and installation instructions – not that you'll need this last bit. If something is amiss, email the company and they will get back to you within a couple of days.


4. Remove the old PCB

On top of the PCB you'll see five screws connecting it to the hard drive. Undo them using the torx screwdriver included in the kit, making sure that you don't lose any of them. They're pretty tiny, so once you've managed to remove them all, place them into a zip-lock bag so they don't go astray if you decide to have a break between now and the next step.


5. Attach new PCB

Make sure you ground yourself – an easy way of doing this is to put on an anti-static wrist band – and then carefully take the replacement PCB out of its anti-static bag. Pop it onto your old hard drive, making sure you line it up with the original screw holes. Take the screws from your zip-lock bag and screw the PCB down, ensuring each screw is reasonably tight.



6. Try out your drive

Turn on your PC. Then connect your hard drive to your dock, plug it into the PC and power it up. If the problem with your old drive was due to a faulty PCB, replacing it should now allow your drive to be recognised properly. Access the fi les you need, then copy them to your PC. Don't attempt to use the drive once this is done: chances are it might turn faulty in the future.Via[pluggedin]

How to:- Minimize Network Latency ?


Network latency is a measure of how fast a network is running. The term refers to the time elapsed between the sending of a message to a router and the return of that message (even if the process only takes milliseconds, slowdowns can be very apparent over multi-user networks). Latency problems can signal network-wide slowdowns, and must be treated seriously, as latency issues cause not only slow service but data losses as well. At the user level, latency issues may come from software malfunctions; at the network level, such slowdowns may be a result of network overextension or bottlenecking, or DoS or DDoS activity.
At the user level, latency issues may be caused by PC software. Some software designed for networking actually slows down user traffic; one should be certain to use only necessary networking tools and applications. Traffic can also be slowed by tray icons and spyware that take up network time without any input from the user (and most certainly without his or her consent). Unnecessary icons should be disabled, and spyware checks run frequently. On the network level, the most important latency troubleshooting step is to identify the problem. Traceroute is one of the most common tasks one should perform when latency becomes an issue. Running a traceroute analyzes the activity of packet transfer along a network, and such a protocol can help administrators to find the source of the slowdown. Traffic can then be re-routed while the problem area is reconfigured.
DoS/DDoS attacks can affect the speed of an entire network and cause major network latency problems. There is no single way to deal with DoS/DDoS attacks. Administrators are encouraged to accumulate as much server strength and bandwidth as possible (and financially feasible), and to closely monitor network activity to catch and fend off attacks as efficiently as possible.
There are many software tools for y ou to monitor network latency, set alarm thresholds, and resolve problems before your users complain that the network is too slow . Understanding your network, its performance, and its problems often requires a suite of tools that allows you to examine various aspects of your network. These tools provide solid data that let you baseline your network, troubleshoot problems, and measure anomalies and improvements. A good tool often saves you hours to understand the reasons for the network latency and provides you guidelines on how to improve network performance.

Find Windows XP Product Key From Your Installation CD


Have you lost your windows CD Key and are desperately looking for it? No backups, nothing. What do you do now? Well till you have your Original installation you can easily find the Product key without breaking a sweat.
Here are the simple steps you need to perform in order to get your Product Key from the installation CD.


  1. Insert the Installation CD into your CD / Drive Drive.
  2. Explore the CD and navigate to the i386 folder.
  3. Open the file UNATTEND.txt and scroll down to the last line.
  4. You will find your Windows XP Product key there.
We were able to find the CD key on a Windows XP Corporate Edition installation CD and would love to know if you were able to find it on your own installation CDs. Do let us know through your comments on how it went for you.

How do I... Configure firewall security on a SonicWALL


The setup wizard

SonicWALL  includes numerous wizards with its firewall devices. Available menus differ by model (for example, the WEP/WAP Encryption settings menu is available only on those models possessing wireless features).
The Setup Wizard is a time-saving tool that simplifies new router deployment. Or, if a network is being redesigned, a SonicWALL device can be reset to factory defaults and the Setup Wizard can be used to roll the device out anew.

To use the Setup Wizard, log in to a SonicWALL firewall and click the Wizards button. The Wizards (Figure A) button can be found on the main System | Status page.

Here’s a walkthrough of the process using a SonicWALL PRO 1260.
After clicking the Wizards button, the SonicWALL Configuration Wizard presents four options (Figure B).

Administrators can either choose to select the Setup Wizard (used to configure the SonicWALL device to secure network connections), the PortShield Interface Wizard (for segmenting networks), the Public Server Wizard (used to provide internal server access to the public) or the VPN Wizard (for configuring access to a virtual private network).


Specify whether you wish to select the Setup Wizard, PortShield Interface Wizard, Public Server Wizard or VPN Wizard. For this example, we’ll choose Setup Wizard and click Next. The Setup Wizard appears.
  1. Step 1: The Change Password screen appears. Enter the default or old password, then enter a new password and confirm the new entry. When finished, click Next.
  2. Step 2: The Change Time Zone menu appears. Specify the applicable time zone, and check the box if you want the firewall to automatically adjust for daylight saving time, and click Next.
  3. Step 3: The WAN Network Mode screen appears. Select the radio button indicating the method used to connect to your ISP (Static IP, DHCP, PPPoE or PPTP). Then, click Next. For this example we’ll select Static IP. (Figure C)

  1. Step 4: The WAN Network Mode: NAT Enabled menu appears. Enter the SonicWALL WAN IP Address, WAN Subnet Mask, Gateway (Router) Address, DNS Server Address and a secondary DNS address, and click Next. (Figure D)

  1. Step 5: The LAN Settings menu appears. Supply an IP address for the SonicWALL’s LAN. Be sure to provide a subnet mask, and then click Next. (Figure E)

  1. Step 6: The LAN DHCP Settings screen appears. Check the Enable DHCP Server On LAN box if you wish for the SonicWALL device to provide DHCP services. If you check the box, you’ll also have to enter the valid LAN address range. When done, click Next. (Figure F)

  1. Step 7: The SonicWALL Configuration Summary (Figure G). Review the information the wizard provides, and if all settings are correct, click Apply. If the configuration requires adjustment, click the Back button.

Review the Confirmation Summary carefully before proceeding; clicking Apply triggers the settings reviewed on this menu.


A screen will appear indicating that the SonicWALL configuration is being saved, and you’ll be asked to wait. When the configuration is completed, you’ll see a Congratulations message stating the changes have been made and the Setup Wizard has completed.

SonicWALL Log In

Once the Setup Wizard is complete, log in to the firewall by entering the IP address you assigned to the SonicWALL device in Step 5 (on the LAN Settings menu). You’ll be greeted with a standard name and password dialog box. Enter the name and password you supplied for the firewall and click the Login button.
By default, the SonicWALL device displays the System | Status menu. To configure additional firewall settings, click the Firewall button from the menu appearing on the SonicWALL interface screen’s left edge.
The Firewall | Access Rules | All menu appears. The SonicWALL application displays important information about the firewall’s configuration within this screen. In addition to revealing zone and priority information, the Access Rules menu displays source and destination data, service type, action status, and user information (Figure H).

Administrators can review SonicWALL’s Access Rules using three different views; here the All Rules view is displayed.


Traffic statistics for each access rule can be obtained simply by mousing-over the graph icon that appears toward the end of each access rule line. Access rule configurations can be tweaked by clicking the pencil and paper icon, or an access rule can be deleted by clicking its trash can icon.

Creating access rules

To create an access rule:
  1. Log on to the SonicWALL firewall.
  2. Click the Firewall button.
  3. Click the Matrix or Drop-down Boxes View Style radio button. (See Figure I)
  4. Click the appropriate From And To Zone (such as WAN to LAN).
  5. Click the Add button that appears at the bottom of the menu.

When creating an access rule, you must specify the appropriate criteria. SonicWALL’s firmware provides pre-populated drop-down boxes for configuring most settings.


  1. Using the General tab, specify the action to be taken to traffic matching the access rule’s settings; Allow, Deny and Discard are the three options.
  2. Select the appropriate service from the Service drop-down box. Do the same for the Source, Destination, Users Allowed and Schedule drop-down boxes.
  3. Enter a comment that describes the access rule or its purpose.
  4. Uncheck the Enable Logging checkbox if you don’t wish to log events related to the new access rule.
  5. Configure any advanced options (such as a timeout for TCP connection inactivity or the number of connections permitted) using the Advanced tab.
  6. Click OK.

Editing access rules

To edit an access rule:
  1. Log on to the SonicWALL firewall.
  2. Click the Firewall button.
  3. Select Access Rules.
  4. Click the pencil and paper icon for the access rule you wish to edit.
  5. Use the resulting drop-down boxes to adjust the access rule as required (Figure J). Alternatively, you can click an access rule’s corresponding trash can icon to delete it.

  1. Click OK to apply the edits (if you delete an access rule, the deletion occurs upon confirming the action). The SonicWALL firmware will write the changes and update the firewall’s configuration.

Editing service groups

SonicWALL devices, by default, include service objects and groups designed to simplify firewall administration. Using SonicWALL firewalls, service groups and objects are used to make common applications and services (such as PC Anywhere, ShoreTel, VNC and Yahoo Messenger) available to network users.
To review a firewall’s services settings:
  1. Log on to the SonicWALL firewall.
  2. Click the Firewall button.
  3. Select Services.
Numerous service groups are provided by default (Figure K). To add additional groups or objects:
  1. Log on to the SonicWALL firewall.
  2. Click the Firewall button.
  3. Select Services.
  4. Click the Custom Services radio button.
  5. Click Add Group to create a new Service Group or Add to create a new service (Figure L).

Administrators needing to create their own firewall services can do so by specifying the appropriate criteria.


  1. If you click Add Group, numerous options are pre-populated in the left pane. You can choose to select one of those or enter your own name and click OK; to configure its settings, click its subsequent pencil and paper icon. To create a new service, click the Add button, provide a name, specify the appropriate protocol, enter the port range or sub type if required and click OK.

How to fix a "network cable unplugged" error

If you are experiencing a "network cable unplugged" error message, you have experienced the loss of a hardwired connection. In a world of insanely cryptic error messages, this one is relatively straight forward.
You might think that your first step is to check that your network cable is not actually unplugged. However, network cables don't fall out very often, the most likely cause of the error message is that your modem or router has lost power.
Your next step is to be sure your ethernet network adapter is enabled and working properly. In Windows XP; click Start>Settings>Network Connections. Generally, you'll see a wireless adapter (if so equipped) and a LAN (Local Area Network) adapter. You should disable the wireless connection and enable or repair the LAN connection. You can access these options by right clicking on the appropriate adapter.
Once you've determined that the modem and/or router have power, and your adapter is enabled, your next step is to...
You guessed it, make sure your network cable isn't actually unplugged. Your network cable is an ethernet cable, also known as a cat5 cable. It looks like a bigger version of a phone line and is generally some color other than black. The cable usually plugs into the back of either your desktop or your laptop and connects to your modem or router.
Once you've located the cable make sure it is firmly seated into the jack. You may wish to remove the cable and inspect it for damage. The connectors are very similar to standard phone jacks and connectors, there is a little tab that locks the connector into the jack. Your network cable is made up of small wires. Check at the connectors to see if any of these wires are broken or pulled out. If the cable is connected properly, you should see a green or amber light around the network jack. This means data is being transferred over the connection. If you don't see any lights, try a known good cable.
There is always the possibility that your network adapter is not functioning properly. You can check under System Properties>Device Manager>Network Adapters. If you see a red "X", Houston, you have a problem. You can try to repair, enable/disable the adapter and update the drivers. These options are accessible via a right click on the adapter icon.
If you must replace your network adapter, don't panic. Although you will need to open the case of your computer, it's a fairly easy job. You network adapter is also known as a NIC (Network Interface Card.)
