How to Access a Vista Computer Remotely

Windows Vista comes with the Remote Desktop Connection program (also referred to as "RDP") built in. This program allows you to access your Vista computer remotely from another computer on the same network or from an Internet connection. Before doing so, you must know the name or IP address of the Vista computer you wish to access, and have a username and password on that computer.

Instructions

  1. Step 1. Log in to the computer that you want to use to access your Vista computer.

  2. Step 2. Click on the Start button and then click on the "Run..." option. If you use Vista or Windows 7 on this computer, click inside the search box.
Step 3. Type "mstsc.exe" and then press the "Enter" key. The Remote Desktop Connection window appears.

  3. Step 4.Type the name or IP address of your remote Vista computer into the connection window, and then press the "Enter" key.

  4. Step 5.Type in your username and password that you use to log in to the remote Vista computer. Press the "Enter" key and you are immediately connected to the computer.
